Beads Galore Has A New Owner

By Kathy Feist

The Beads Galore building, located at 200 E. 135 St.,  has been purchased by local investor Marc Hales.

Hales sees a great deal of potential in the former Beadz Galore building and hopes to lease it to someone who also has a vision.

The 3900 square foot building has a drive-through window, scenic window space, gray artistic flooring and plenty of parking. It sits on an acre, which allows expansion if necessary.

“It has so many nice possibilities,” says Hales, who does not want to sell the property.

The property originally was a Hardee’s drive-through. In May, the fast food restaurant’s 20-year non-compete restriction will expire on the building. When that happens, Hales imagines many different possibilities: a Mexican restaurant, donut shop, coffee/bakery shop, or Asian restaurant. “It could go in any direction,” he says.

One direction he may pursue himself is creating a meeting location for a classic car and coffee group. A classic car enthusiast, Hales has seen “car and coffee” groups proliferate on the West Coast and points out that a couple have already started here in Kansas City.

Hales, who lives near Martin City, says he is excited about the purchase. “I love this part of town.”

He believes the continuing development of 135th Street will enhance the property. He predicts that by this summer the sidewalks and landscaping in front of the building will be complete. Then, there will be a direct connection with RC’s to the east.

“I want traffic,” says Hales. “I want it busy. That is the goal.”
