The Coast Guard in Action in Vietnam
Capt. (Ret) US Coast Guard Chuck Marcus will make a presentation on the “Coast Guard in Action in Vietnam” at the Trailside Center, 9901 Holmes Rd., Thursday, September 22, at 7 pm.
He will be covering activities of his Coast Guard Cutter and the Coast Guard 82-foot patrol boats (WPBs). Vietnam is usually remembered as a war fought in rice paddies and jungles. But there was another conflict as well: a sailors war, much of it fought from decks of United States Coast Guard Patrol Boats and Cutters.
Capt. Marcus served on the Coast Guard Cutter Planetree during two deployments to Vietnam where his unit provided combat support activities that were carried out in support of the war efforts. Capt. Marcus served for 30 years in the Coast Guard on active duty and reserve duty.
