Euston Hardware welcomed the first customers at its new Red Bridge Shopping Center location nearly three months ago, but store manager Chris Socha says the owners wanted to wait until spring for a big open house celebration. That time has arrived—Saturday, April 22, is the official grand opening day.

The store is offering free coffee and donuts that morning, hot dogs in the afternoon and face painting for children from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Specially-priced items include 89 cents for a four-inch potted geranium and 99 cents for a 40-pound bag of top soil. Yardsticks will be given away while supplies last, and the Center High School Band will entertain shoppers from 9-10:30 a.m.

Customers also may try out gas and battery-powered lawn equipment such as trimmers and blowers during a Stihl demo session from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. A Stihl representative will be on hand to answer questions.

The 15,000-square-foot store was transformed this past winter from a former bowling alley into a full-scale hardware and rental store with gardening products on the west end.

“The garden center will be stuffed full. We’ve got annuals, perennials, hanging baskets, planted containers, succulents and a decent collection of flowering bushes,” says Socha, who described the property as a well-lit, inviting space with a nice wrought iron fence. “We’ve been getting a steady flow of customers since the weather has warmed up.”

Tropical plants like ferns, hibiscus, gardenias, mandevillas, banana plants and cordyline will be arriving in early May, he adds.

According to Socha, Euston Hardware offers an unusually wide variety of rental equipment. Items include tillers, aerators, verticut machines for seeding, posthole diggers, lawn combers for thatch removal, chipper shredders, chain saws, stump grinders, log splitters, jackhammers and more.

Store hours on April 22 are 8 a.m.-6 p.m. While grand opening festivities are only on Saturday, the price specials remain good through April 30.
