As school kicks into gear, you may be thinking of placing your child in preschool. There are plenty in the area and they each offer something unique. We’ve done some of the research for you.  The following are listed in order from 135th Street to 97th Street.

Bambini Creativi –  Ages 2.5 (potty trained) – 8 years. 8:30 am – 3:30 pm.  Children are designated to groups based on age and developmental stage. The program is based on the Reggio Emilia Approach. Academie Montessori Internationale – Ages 2.5  – 5 yrs. 7:30 – 5:30. In a setting off the road on 10 spacious acres, this Montessori school has provided the area with a highly reputable education since 1976. The only one to also offer primary school classes. 12501 State Line Rd. 816-942-3307

Calvary Lutheran Early Education Center – Ages 6 week – PreK. 7 am – 6 pm. A quality caring, Christ-centered educational environment including learning centers within each room. 12411 Wornall Rd. www.calvaryschoolkc.com.

Red Bridge United Methodist Early Childhood Center – Ages 2-5. 9 am – 1 pm, 3 pm twice monthly. Children experience weekly music and Gymboree classes, and chapel time with the pastor once a month.  They offer “in-house field trips”, meaning that children are not taken off-campus, but a variety of educational presentations are brought to them.  Past presentations have included farm animals, Mother Nature, and JoHo the storyteller.   363 E. 117 St. www.redbridgeecc.com.

Barstow Preschool and PreK – Ages 3 (potty trained) – 5 years. 8 am – 4 pm. Children use pre-reading, pre-writing and number sense to improve learning experiences. Field trips and class visitors through the year. 11511 State Line Rd. www.barstowschool.com.

Alpha Montessori School – Ages 2 – 5. Children learn self-discovery through experience. Teaching materials are divided into the four Montessori activities: practical life, sensorial, language and math. St. Peter’s Day School – Starting at age 24 months. 7:30 am  – 5:30 pm, Children are taught in a motivating, nurturing Christian environment that promotes the spiritual, cognitive, physical, social and emotional development of each child. La Petite Academy – Infant to 5 years. 6:30 – 6:30.   A School Readiness Pathway program offers educational options to create the most fitting path for the child. Also has a before and after school program for elementary school ages. 401 E. Red Bridge Rd. www.lapetite.com

Punkin Patch Childcare – Infant – PreK. 7 am – 5:45 pm. Individualized attention is given in a loving environement. Extracurricular activities include Computer Tots, Stretch n Grow, Happy Feet and Tippi Toes Dance. 100 W. Red Bridge Rd.(First Baptist Church of KC) www.punkinpatchdaycarekc.com..

The Daniel Academy – Ages 3-5 years. Classes meet twice a week in the morning, 7:45 – 11:45. Learning based around centers and hands-on projects. Spiritual growth from Bible stories, prayer, listening and worship through music. 310 W. 106 St. www.thedanielacademy.com.

The Phoenix Montessori School – Ages 2.5 – 6 years. Half day program up to age 4. Full day optional for those older. The directress studied under a Montessori teacher who worked and lived with Maria Montessori. Bright, sunlit classrooms with complete “Nienhuis” Montessori materials for 3 – 6 year olds. Tomlin Academy – Infant – PreK. 6 am – 8 pm. This new school follows the ABEKA Phonics and Christian curriculum and offers numerous programs to meet the individual needs of the child, including online curriculum, Spanish lessons, Stretch n Grow, MAD Science, yoga lessons, Tippi Toes Dance and more at no extra charge. 9700 Holmes Rd.
