Grandview Rehab Center Has Much to Brag About

On a quiet road at the edge of Grandview is a rehabilitation center called Life Care Center.  

The rooms smell fresh. The building is clean and updated. And patients have finished breakfast and are visiting in the hallways. Some have already fallen asleep. Those who haven’t sport a big smile on their faces as they greet Wendy Coop, the admissions coordinator, as she makes her way through the facility as a tour guide. Coop reaches over to hug a few. Some joke with her. She jokes back. They all seem happy to see her.

“Everyone here is friendly. They’re friends,”  says Coop who has been with Life Care for 15 years. “That’s what makes it special.  It’s a tight-knit community.”

Life Care Center of Grandview has recently been in the news when one of its residents had the privilege of meeting country music star Luke Bryan while he was in town for a performance. Prior to that it was home to Miss Missouri Nursing Home Queen of 2015.

While those give the center bragging privileges, what it is most proud of is its 5-Star rating from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). That rating means above average services in the categories of Health Inspections, Staffing and Quality Measures.

Life Care Center employs physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, respiratory therapists, registered and licensed practical nurses, and a medical director.  Social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists visit the facility on a regular basis.

The rehab center specializes in stroke recovery, cardiac and/or respiratory management, wound care, IV therapy and post-rehab follow-up. It is an in-patient and out-patient facility with a 24/7 admission policy.

Its therapy gym is state of the art with its latest acquisition being an AlterG anti-gravity treadmill. “This is like doing water aerobics without the water,” explains Coop. “It takes away up to 80 percent of your body weight. Which is really cool.” The “unweighting” allows a quicker recovery for joint, respiratory and cardiac patients.

Life Care Center offers private and shared rooms, fine dining, a beauty salon,  activities and field trips, and a sitting area with an aquarium and a small bird aviary. It accepts Medicare and Medicaid as well as other insurance.
