South Kansas City neighborhood leaders are urged to sign up before the March 1 deadline to attend free leadership classes at UMKC this spring sponsored by the UMKC Center for Neighborhoods.
“If you care about your neighborhood, we want you to participate in one of our free neighborhood leadership classes,” Dina Newman, director of the Center, told a February 12 meeting of the South Kansas City Alliance.
The 9-week program begins on March 27 and runs through May 22. Classes meet from 5:30 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday, preceded by dinner at 5 p.m. The main topics covered will include leadership and governance, neighborhood planning and design, neighborhood health and safety, and technology and communication.
The program requires at least two people to participate from every neighborhood organization, and they need to confirm they have notified the current leadership of their organization about their intent to participate. Newman said participants should also have a specific neighborhood project in mind that they can work on during the classes.
She said persons should sign up as soon as possible since the classes are expected to fill up quickly. Persons may email neighborhoods@umkc.edu or call 816-235-6931 for more information or to enroll
