Prairie Party
By John Sharp
Area residents can enjoy environmentally friendly free family activities from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 2, at Jerry Smith Park near 139th & Holmes Rd. which contains the only significant unplowed remnant in Jackson County of the natural prairie grasses and flowers that once covered much of this area.
The Party on the Prairie events include guided trail hikes, hay rides, a scavenger hunt, bird walk, live music and a quick paint competition. Free hot dogs, chips and water will be served beginning at 10 a.m.
Persons may get to the park by taking Holmes Rd. to 139th St. (just south of the Blue River bridge), turning east on 139th and following it to the park entrance on the left.
