Traffic Updates

Street and highway construction progress should soon begin easing at least some area traffic impediments.

135th St Lanes open in July

By early July, 135th St. which is being widened and improved should be reopened to two-way traffic from Wornall Rd. to Inverness Dr., although some intermittent lane closures will still occur as work continues, according to Kim Pemberton, project manager for the KCMO Public Works Department.

Pemberton said sidewalk installation along this stretch of 135th St. should begin in late June.  She said the project should be substantially completed in October and be fully completed in November.

I-470 and Blue Ridge

On the I-435/I-470 corridor, the ramp to westbound I-470 from Blue Ridge Blvd. should reopen around June 22, according to Perry Allen, Jr., director for the I-435 South Loop project for the Missouri Department of Transportation.  The lengthy closure of the ramp was due to the need for major deck repairs on the ramp over the Kansas City Southern railroad tracks.

Work on the interior eastbound and westbound lanes on I-470 over the tracks and Blue Ridge Blvd. which causes traffic congestion during rush hours will hopefully be completed by August 1, Allen said.

I-435 at Three Trails Crossing

He noted that for the next two weeks or so, crews will be paving westbound lanes of I-435 west of the Three Trails Crossing at night as part of the project to add one lane in each direction on the highway and make other improvements from where the highway narrows west of the Three Trails Crossing to State Line Rd.

Bannister & I-435

Due to this ongoing work, Allen said now there is no assurance that the closed southbound ramp connection from Bannister Rd. to westbound I-435 will be reopened during project construction, which is expected to continue through 2019.  However, he said an earlier reopening is still possible depending on construction progress.
