Art Opening at Kingswood

An art opening  hosted by Kingwood Retirement Community, 10000 Wornall Rd., will feature local artist Janet Kuemmerlein on Thursday, July 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The reception is open to the public.

Kuemmerlein is a pioneer in the contemporary fiber art movement. Born in Detroit, Kuemmerlein studied painting at the College of Creative Studies there, and sculpture and metalsmithing at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Exhibitions of Kuemmerlein’a work led to numerous commissions and awards, both nationally and internationally, as well as purchases by collectors. Her work has been placed in the Smithsonian Museum of Fine Art, Washington, D.C., the Chicago Institute of Art, the Rochester Institute of Technology, the Georgia Institute of Technology, the Daum Museum of Contemporary Art, the Museum of Art and Design, New York, Hallmark Cards Corporate and many others.

She received Art in Architecture awards as well as awards from the Guild for Religious Architecture. The Kansas Arts Commission awarded her the 2009 Master Artist Fellowship. Her work has been in exhibits in England, France, Germany and Switzerland.

Kuemmerlein is a gifted speaker and will discuss her art. Hors d’oerves will be served. A $20 charge will go toward the Kingswood Foundation which help Kingswood‘s elderly retirees who need financial assistance.
