will be held Sunday, August 12, following the 10:30 a.m. services. Four food trucks will be parked in the church parking lot at 117th & Holmes around 11:30 a.m. to dish out lunchtime fare. Those vendors include Cheesy Street, Jovito’s Back Alley Grinders, Monk’s Roast Beef and Kona Ice.

Children who come in the first hour will receive one free Kona Ice treat thanks to the church’s congregation. “It’s the church’s way to celebrate the school year,” says Pastor Trista Soendker Nicholson.

On hand will be Dana Green, Vice Principal at Martin City Elementary, who will give a brief talk about the school.

Participants are encouraged to bring hot dogs or hot dog buns which will be donated to the school.

The event is open to the public. Families from any congregation are invited to attend the services where Pastor Soendker Nicholson will bless the children’s backpacks. A small token to remind them of the blessing will be handed out to each child who participates. Parents and grandparent, of students will also receive school year blessings.

After services, the fenced in playground will be open to the children as well as other activities, such as sidewalk chalk and bubble blowing wands. Older children from the congregation will oversee the activities. This will enable adults to sit and enjoy the outdoor event if they so choose, says Pastor Soendker Nicholson.

Last year the event attracted around 150 people in and outside the congregation. “There were a lot of kiddos,” says Soendker Nicholson, “which is just great!”
