OfficeMax Closes Permanently
By Brad Lucht
The OfficeMax located at the State Line Shopping Center closed permanently September 8.
After the Telegraph last went to press August 21, employees were notified by the district sales manager that negotiations for a lease at the Village of Seville shopping center, located at 131st and State Line Road, were unsuccessful.
Manager Daniel Lawrence said that there will not be a going out of business sale, but that other stores in the area were already sending trucks to pick up inventory, with printer cartridges being the first items taken.
Lawrence expects that the store will be out of just about everything as the September 8 closing date approaches, with shipping supplies last remaining items. Fixtures are expected to be gone by mid-September.
Employees have been given the option of a accepting a severance package or being relocated to other locations.
A sign in front of the store suggests customers visit the Office Depot store located at 10551 Metcalf Avenue in Overland Park. The closest store on the Missouri side of the border is located at 4201 Main Street. A third Office Depot store remains open at 1624 NW Chipman Road in Lee’s Summit.
Dirt is already being moved on the north side of the store’s parking lot to make way for the new Tesla showroom and service center.
