“Cruisin”
By Sam Kombrink, Sports Columnist
Remember back when I said that Avila was picked to finish 10th in their new conference? (KCAC) …well those writers just didn’t do this team any justice. The Eagles have started the season 2-0, defeating McPherson College 54-31 in their home opener, and coming back in the fourth quarter to take down 17th ranked Sterling College 38-34 in week 1. Avila has had a rare three-man set at quarterback, but they might have just found their guy.
East Carolina transfer John Jacobs III finished Saturday’s game with 537 total yards, and 8 total touchdowns. Jacobs III threw for 407 yards, 4 touchdowns, on 22/43 attempts, without throwing an interception. His favorite target was wide receiver Theo Berry, who finished with (7 receptions and 209 receiving yards,) they were able to connect twice in the end-zone.
John Jacobs III did damage on the ground as well, leading the Avila running game, rushing for 130 yards and 4 touchdowns.
This team has speed, and they got swagger.

The fact of the matter is that this football team knows they were picked to finish 10th. They have Division 1 talent, and it would be an understatement to say that they have a chip on their shoulder. As long as they keep executing on both sides of the ball, the sky is the limit for the Eagles of Avila.
