South KC Block Party Is Bigger and Cuter
The South Kansas City Block Party was such a success last year that it’s being repeated. This year the party will include a cute baby costume contest, a culinary showdown and a surprise announcement from Lane4 Property Group regarding the newest tenants at Red Bridge Shopping Center. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the shopping center at Red Bridge and Holmes roads.
Sponsored by the South Kansas City Chamber, the block party celebrates the people and businesses in the south Kansas City community. Live entertainment from nearby schools, small business vendors, local chefs, food trucks, carnival games, emergency vehicle tours and more are intended to get the neighbors out to mingle.
With Halloween around the corner, it’s only fitting to have a “Best Baby Costume” contest. There’s no fee to enter. Babies must be newborn to 18 months or 19 months to 3 years. Winners must be present to win the prize, which is a free photo session with Xenos Creative.
The South Kansas City Culinary Throwdown will include local chefs Jasper Mirable of Jasper’s and Ann Waris Alexiou of Southside Grill. They will be preparing Chicken Parmesan. The two had competed in a meatball culinary thrown down this spring.
The Fit58 5K is open to walkers and runners and will start at 7 a.m. at the Mid-Continent Public Library’s Red Bridge branch. Money raised will go toward the Center School District Foundation.
Finally, food trucks at the event will include Blue Moose, Jovito’s Italian Cafe, Betty Rae’s Ice Cream and a cotton candy vendor.
To enter any contests, become a sponsor or vendor or volunteer, go to southkcchamber.com or call 816-761-7660.
