Thousands of Petals Set to Brighten Wednesday in Kansas City
The Fiddly Fig and Teefey Flowers Encourage Busy Commuters to ‘Petal It Forward’
The Fiddly Fig and Teefey Flowers will be hitting the streets of Kansas City on Wednesday, October 24, handing out hundreds of flowers to busy commuters to help brighten their week.
From 10 am to 3 pm, a team of florists Teefey Flowers will be handing out bouquets at Ward Parkway Shopping Center’s new Restaurant Pavilion, 89th & State Line, and at their floral shop at 97th & Holmes. Florists from Fiddly Fig will be handing them out at their Brookside location, 22 W 63 St.
Both florists will give away 500 bouquets to people on the street. After receiving their flowers, recipients are asked to spread the happiness by gifting their extra flower bouquet, and sharing their happiness on social media using #petalitforward.
“The purpose of Petal It Forward is to spread happiness and flower awareness,” says Myrna Shepherd, owner of Teefey Flowers. “Studies show that people feel good when they get flowers and they also feel better when they give flowers.”
The Fiddly Fig and Teefey Flowers are joining hundreds of florists across the country in Petal It Forward, a program in partnership with the Society of American Florists. This random-acts-of-kindness effort is in response to the release of data by SAF showing the positive emotional benefits of flowers.
The results from a survey of 2,500 people throughout the U.S. by SAF revealed:
- 88% reported that giving flowers makes them feel happy, while 80% reported that receiving flowers makes them feel happy.
- 76% agree that having flowers in their home or office improves their mood.
- The best reason to receive flowers is “just because”: 92% of women and 75% of men like to receive flowers “just because.”
- Nearly 40% indicate florists have helped them in a past or current relationship; most frequently to say “I love you,” or schedule a surprise delivery.
Shepherd and her team are excited to pass out rose bouquets and have spent most of the week wrapping them in threes. Shepherd thanks her wholesaler Schmidt & Klaus for helping to make Petal It Forward possible for them.
