The next phase of a decade-long partnership between Burns & McDonnell, a south Kansas City based engineering, architectural and construction firm, and Science City in Union Station that will result in the firm investing an additional $2.5 to $3 million in programs and exhibits over the next five years was announced Thursday, October 25.
Science City will now be known as Science City Powered by Burns & McDonnell. “This is more than lending our name to Science City. This is our commitment to invest in and sustain our city’s science center that is so successful,” said Ray Kowalik, Burns & McDonnell chairman and CEO.
The firm’s new commitment includes:
Sponsoring two more Battle of the Brains K-12 science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) competitions and installing $1 million permanent exhibits based on each year’s winning entry.
Funding one field trip per week for an entire school year for classes to visit Science City.
Sharing tips and insights about careers in STEM from professionals in those fields during Science City’s summer camp and providing demonstrations at Science City throughout the year.
Offering an internship for a Battle of the Brains participant.
