The KCMO Animal Health & Public Safety Division is reminding pet owners to protect their pets during cold weather by keeping them inside, providing adequate shelter, drying wet pets, being aware of rock salt, and providing adequate food and water, noting snow is not a good substitute for fresh water.

Division staff will rescue pets found outside without proper shelter during extreme conditions and issue citations to their owners.  Residents can report pets being left outdoors in such circumstances by calling 311 or 816-513-1313 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday or by calling the Police Department non-emergency number 816-234-5111 after hours.
