Studying the Bible on Facebook Live

By Kathy Feist

“Thanksgiving isn’t so much about the bird. It’s about being grateful, spiritual, hopeful. It’s about family, friends and loved ones. It’s about fellowship, It’s about blessing people around you” says Tammy Linningham.

Linningham is developing fellowship and blessing many around her with a unique form of Bible study. Linningham recently started a Bible Study called Thunder Talk on Facebook Live every Thursday at 6 p.m. on her personal account.

“Last week we studied loneliness,” she says. As she read scripture pertaining to the subject, people typed in their questions or comments. “Someone asked what can you do when feeling lonely. Other people gave her suggestions.”

The November 15th Bible Study centers around Thanksgiving.

Linningham has been involved in Christian practice all her life. Raised in the Baptist church in Tennessee, Linningham  joined a Pentecostal denomination in Kansas City when she was 14, where she played bass and founded a youth choir. In 1991 Linningham co-founded a non-denominational church in Grandview and was First Associate Pastor. She is now a member of Peace UCC which meets at Barstow School. She attends seminary at Central Seminary while also working full time at St. Joseph Medical Center.

Linningham is trying to get a new church started, Wellspring Kingdom Church.

“You hear a lot about people being welcomed in a church but they really aren’t,” she says. “I work to be open to others. Wellspring will practice radical hospitality for people who come.”

For now, Linningham likes the features that Facebook Live provides: a safe environment and no financial needs.

The Bible studies are 30 minutes long. Discussion is encouraged regarding the subject.

“I want to be a great resource in south Kansas City,” she says. “I want to let people know they matter. That’s what God’s all about. That’s why Jesus came.”
