New Senior Behavioral Health Center has opening

The new Senior Behavioral Health Center at St. Joseph Medical Center celebrated an open house and ribbon cutting on Friday, December 14.

The center provides personalized care for adults over 55 years of age experiencing acute behavioral symptoms associated with dementia and/or a mental health condition including bi-polar disorder, anxiety, depression and schizophrenia.

The 22-bed unit provides a safe environment where patients receive care from a team of professionals, including behavioral health therapists, psychiatrists and psychologists, gerontologists, social workers, recreational therapists, medical doctors and more. The team at the center are trained to address

Agitated/aggressive behaviors

  • Assaultive behavior or ideas that pose a threat to others
  • Extreme sadness and/or isolated behavior
  • Disorientation or hallucinations
  • Hearing voices and/or seeing things that are not there
  • Self-injurious behavior
  • Severe depression
  • Suicidal feelings
