Ruskin senior Alexis Frazier has been named the 1st place winner in the 2018 Jackson County Racial Justice Essay Competition. Frazier won for her essay, “The Bridge Between Ruby and the Children.” She was recognized December 1 at a Historical Marker Ceremony. The award was given by the Equal Justice Initiative.
Frazier’s essay focused on Ruby Bridges and her experience as the first African American child to attend an all-white school in the South after the ruling of Brown vs. Board of Education.
“I also focused on the steps that would need to take place in order to possibly fix the racial issues, as well as the problems that the students on both sides of the issue would encounter,” said Frazier.
