Big Brothers Big Sisters honors Grandview Senior with all-expense paid visit to MIT
Grandview High School Senior Yesenia Abonce has always dreamed of attending college at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to study engineering. Thanks to the program Girls on the Rise sponsored by Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Kansas City she will have the opportunity to visit the college.
Abonce is one of six girls in Kansas City who were chosen to receive funds to visit the college of their dreams. The others include Jada Chew of Parkville High, Jada Jackson-Adams, Tatiana Marshall of Pembroke Hill School, Alondra Munoz of Lincoln College Prep, and Latoria Campbell of Wyandotte High School.
Abonce says she would like to attend MIT or the University of Missouri to become a chemical or mechanical engineer. Abonce was inspired to participate in Girls on the Rise by her Big Sister Sue.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kansas City partnered with 1000 Dreams and BBBSKC Ambassadors to honor the recipients of Girls on the Rise.
