Shrove Tuesday pancake dinners
In 1 Corinthians 9:27 in the Bible, Apostle Paul states: “I buffet my body and make it my slave…” It is a concept practiced during the 40 days of abstinence that is called Lent. As a result, the days before Lent, Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) and Shrove Tuesday, is a day of frivolity and indulgence.
This year Mardi Gras/Shrove Tuesday falls on March 5. Two area churches will be offering the traditional Shrove Tuesday pancake supper, one with a mix of Mardi Gras fun.
St. Peter and All Saints Episcopal Church, 100 E. Red Bridge Rd, will be serving all-you-can-eat pancakes along with toppings and sausage from 5 to 7:30 pm. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children ages 6-12, and free for those under the age of 6.
St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church, 16808 Holmes Rd., will be dishing up pancakes, potluck dishes, King cakes, and live music from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Payment is by donation.
Both churches invite the public to participate.
There were numerous other churches in Red Bridge offering pancake feeds, including St. Thomas More.
