Whiskey Run 5K moves to March 24
The Whiskey Run 5K is already breaking records. On Friday afternoon, March 22, there were 835 runners/walkers registered for the fun romp through Martin City.
“It’s the largest Whiskey Run ever!” reported KC Running Company spokesman Brad Ziegler.
Organizers were expecting 850 the day of the race, which was already 200 more than previous Whiskey Runs normally held the same day as Martin City’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade (this year held March 10).
The 5K will be held Sunday, March 24 at 8:30 a.m. at the KC Running Company headquarters, 200 E. 135 St. It is open to runners and walkers who will be chip-timed. A fun run of 50 to 200 yards for kids ages 8 and under will follow.

All participants will get a race shirt, shot glass, finisher’s medal and a voucher for a free breakfast at participating Martin City restaurants. Vouchers for the free breakfast after the race will be available at packet pickup where participants can choose from RC’s, Martin City Brewing Company or Martin City Coffee. The vouchers are good only on the day of the race.
The in-kind sponsor is J.Rieger & Co who will supply shots of whiskey after the race. The finisher’s medal features a spinning Rieger whiskey bottle.
Adding to the spirit of the race are Mr. Peanut and the Peanutmobile as well as Cabot Cheese, all good accompaniments to a good whiskey.

Spots are available for volunteers to help monitor the course. “A few hours of cheering on runners and you’ll get breakfast on the MCBCA,” says Tiffany Moore, event coordinator.
Runners can sign up all week and even on Sunday morning. Packet pick up is Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 7 to 8:30 a.m. at KC Running Co., 200 E. 135. However, early sign-up discounts end on Friday, March 22.
