On May 21, with a 4-3 vote, the Kansas City Plan Commission recommended approval of Wornall Point, a 98-unit apartment complex on a 4.7-acre site at 9201 Wornall Rd. However, by May 30  a formal request to withdraw the associated applications for the project was submitted by the applicant, JPL Development LLC of St. Louis.  The proposal would have gone to a City Council subcommittee. No future hearings or reviews will occur on these applications.

According to lead city planner Chris Hughey, the commission asked for some minor revisions to the project, including assurance that parking lot lights would not impact the surrounding neighborhood. Nearby residents had expressed concerns about increased traffic and drainage, but Hughey said city traffic engineers determined that Wornall Road could handle the “fairly negligible increase” in traffic the apartments would bring. He also said the developer was looking into onsite detention of stormwater.
