Andy’s Frozen Custard opened September 5, ending more than a month of partially-closed traffic lanes for motorists on both sides of State Line Road between Red Bridge Road and Carondelet Drive.

Traffic has been squeezed into one or two lanes since the last week of July as workers modified the median to reposition a left turn lane for southbound vehicles entering the shop’s parking lot. During this same time period, a large hole was dug and various stormwater improvements were made at the request of Kansas City Water Services. The developer paid for all changes.

Ice cream specials change regularly.

Andy’s Frozen Custard will have indoor seating, a covered patio with benches and drive-thru service. Customers exiting the shop can turn both north and south onto State Line Road, but there are no plans for a traffic signal.

Trees, bushes and sod have been installed, but the iconic giant ceramic ice cream cone was missing. Andy’s is on the Missouri side of State Line Road just south of the St. Joseph medical complex and QuikTrip.
