Partners in Primary Care has opened a full service health clinic designed for seniors 65 and older inside Walgreens located at Main St. and 71 Hwy in Grandview. The clinic is complete with five examination rooms, a community room, waiting room, and care team room.
A ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration was held Tuesday at 10 am and included a visit by KC Wolf, Grandview Mayor Leonard Jones, Grandview aldermen and Partners in Primary Care officials.
Cooking demonstrations and educational programs are being held throughout the week, September 24 to 27. Activities include Coffee with a Doctor, 9-11 am daily; Healthy Cooking Demonstrations at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm daily, and education seminars, 10 am, noon and 2 pm daily. Topics include Brain Health on Wednesday, September 25, Arthritis and Anti-inflammatory on Thursday, September 26, and Healthy Living/Stroke Awareness on Friday, September 27.
Partners in Primary Care, which has six other locations in Kansas City, is dedicated to helping seniors with full-service primary care, including pharmacy, nutrition, and wellness support. The organization also prides itself on shorter wait time, longer doctor visits, regular check ups, and same-day appointments. Partners in Primary Care is a subsidiary of Humana.
The 2,500 square foot clinic in Grandview is fully staffed with a physician, physician’s assistant, care coach nurses (who check on patients regularly with a phone call), a behavioral health specialist, social workers, dietitians, referral coordinators (who organize appointments), and of course the Walgreen pharmacist. Each morning the entire staff gathers in the “huddle room” to review the records of incoming patients that day.
Each senior-geared exam room has a lift-type chair that allows the patient to be seated at any height or angle and then be lifted to the physician’s level of examination comfort. The rooms are also equipped with digital televisions that show educational videos or plug in to the doctor’s laptop to share pertinent information on the big screen.
The community room is set up with tables and chairs for educational purposes, cooking demonstrations or crafts. The space can also be used for exercise classes such as Tai Chi or chair yoga.
The community room can be entered inside the back of Walgreen’s pharmacy. The clinic entrance is located on the northwest end of Walgreen’s.
One Raytown Partners in Primary Care patient was on hand to share his experience. Robert Simmons, age 67, was impressed with his doctor’s expertice regarding senior health care. “He shared things about me that no [other doctor] has ever shared,” he said. He said he also liked the clinic’s simplicity in making an appointment, its same-day availability, and the longer patient visits with the doctor.
The Grandview Partners in Primary Care center is the third of which is co-located inside a Walgreens. A fourth location inside a Walgreens will be opening in Overland Park with services available later this year.
The centers accept Aetna + Coventry, Cigna, Humana and UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans.
Primay care physicians at Partners in Primary Care excel at developing long-term relationships with patients living with chronic conditions. Partners in Primary Care is part of a family of senior-focused, primary care centers that deliver care to 30,000 Medicare Advantage patients.
