The Scoop is now open
With the closing of Tropical Sno on September 7, came the opening of the area’s newest ice cream stand, The Scoop.
The Scoop opened on September 10 in the former Tropical Sno stand located at 200 E 135 St., next to the Martin City Post Office. Twelve gallons of gourmet ice cream were sold that day, according to owner TJ Carr.

Carr, general manager at Martin City Pizza and Taps and the Brew Pub, has partnered with Matt Moore, owner of Martin City Brewery and its many enterprises. Carr asked Sammie Logan and Jeremy Fiscus, servers at the Brew Pub, to help create ice cream flavors. It has now become their passion. Come of the flavors currently available are Lemon Poppy Seed made with fresh lemon juice and shortbread, Pumpkin Spice which incorporates pureed pumpkin, Chocolate Oreo made with ghirardelli chocolate syrup and Oreos, and a non-dairy Espresso ice cream, just to name a few. Overall 17 flavors have been created.
The Scoop was originally planned to open across from the Brew Pub at 411 E. 135 St where the Martin City Brewing Company headquarters. But parking became a concern, according to Carr. “We didn’t want ice cream customers to encroach on parking at other businesses,” he says. Instead, the partners purchased the Tropical Sno stand, which was up for sale.
The Scoop is open Tuesday through Friday 3 – 9 pm and Saturday and Sunday 11 am – 9 pm. The ice cream stand will remain open until the end of October and will open again for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in March.
