Mr. John’s relocates to 99th and Holmes

John Allison points to the sign that welcomes customers to Mr. John’s Professional Dog Grooming, “There was no question about moving it to the new location. All my customers relate the sign to quality dog grooming.”

Allison grew up showing dogs in competition. In adulthood he entered the electronics industry and began woodworking as a hobby. In the 1980’s he decided to return to his first love: canines. When he heard that a top Kansas City dog groomer wanted an apprentice, Allison applied. Within 30 days he could professionally hand-scissor both standard and toy breeds. After only 18 months in the business and extensive experience grooming all sizes and breeds of dogs, he assumed full responsibility for grooming at Aid Animal Hospital on Wornall Rd. He still has numerous referrals from area veterinarians.
Mr. John’s Professional Dog Grooming originated near 85th and Holmes Rd where the signature marquee, atop a tall pole, identified the salon’s location. He moved to the current site a few months ago after a short stay in a nearby suite. Of course, the marquee came with him to 99th and Holmes. “I made the right decision to move. My customer base has expanded, and I am still available to my long-time customers. Besides, the other business owners around me are great.”
Allison decided to mount the marquee inside the new waiting room. A woodworker by hobby, he picked out the wood to frame the unique sign and built a welcome desk to match the frame.
Allison uses an answering machine and portable phones in the store. “To groom dogs you must have patience and attentiveness as well as an ability to respond quickly to a dog’s movements. Your full attention must be on the dog,” he advises. If a dog is on the table for grooming, that dog has all of Allison’s focus.
Mr. John’s Professional Dog Grooming is located in Suite 546, Holmeswood Shops at 99th and Holmes, and is open Tuesday through Saturday, by appointment only. For more information, call 816-444-5535.
