In an age where online ordering continues to zoom upward, it still feels good to shop local. This year more than two dozen stores and restaurants are taking part in the Waldo Small Business Saturday Crawl on Nov. 30 during the weekend after Thanksgiving.

Each business will offer an incentive to visit, says Natalie Nelson, director of operations for the Waldo Area Business Association. The event runs from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and at the end, shoppers can redeem any Waldo Bucks they have accrued by visiting the association’s office at 7222 Wornall Road. This year for the first time there will be pictures with Santa from 2-4 p.m., live guitar music and light refreshments.

Some participating businesses are still deciding what kind of special they’ll be offering, but other deals are listed at waldokc.org. Euston Waldo Hardware, Hawthorne and Ivy boutique and McLain’s Bakery are advertising 20% off many items, while Lew’s Grill & Bar and The Well will have beer specials. The Classic Cookie will supply a free beverage with purchase of a breakfast entrée, and Hagoyah Hair Salon & Yoga Den is offering 25% off all retail along with discounted gift certificates. Indium Intimates will have a one-day sale rack.

Visitors (age 18 and older) can pick up a Small Business Saturday Crawl Passport at any participating store to earn free Waldo bucks. Visit 15 businesses and receive $10 in Waldo Bucks; spend $50 and receive an additional $10 in Waldo Bucks. There also will be a drawing for a Waldo prize pack.
