Souper Bowl food drive to feature free dinner, restaurant competition and celebrity judges

The Souper Bowl dinner and competition, a food drive for the local food pantry, will begin at 5 pm Saturday at the First Baptist Church, 100 W. Wornall. Non perishable items can be dropped off as early as 3 pm.

 

 

Area restaurants compete in Souper Bowl; celebrity judges determine winner

   Area congregations and organizations are again sponsoring the Super Bowl of Caring with area restaurants competing for the title of “Best Soup”.  This year’s entries are Conroy’s Public House, Southside Bar & Grill, Jasper’s and Jerry’s Cafe

 Drop off donated food items for the Red Bridge Area Food Pantry on February 1 and treat yourself to a free home cooked dinner at the First Baptist Church, Wornall and Red Bridge Rd. The event features a friendly soup competition among area restaurants as well. Photo by Kathy Feist

Everyone is welcome to the event at the First Baptist Church, 100 W. Wornall (Red Bridge and Wornall) on February 1st at 5 pm for a free dinner consisting of 20 different varieties of homemade soup, salad and dessert prepared by members of the First Baptist Church and St. Peter’s and All Saints Episcopal Church across the street. 

Guests are asked to bring non perishables to support the food pantry and the Community Assistance Council. Donations can be dropped off as early as 3 pm.  

Judges

 

Celebrity judges will determine the winner. This year’s judges include Mark Alford from Channel 4, his wife Leslie Alford from the KCMO Parks & Rec, Diane Euston from the Martin City Telegraph, and Dustin Kaufman from the Comedy Club of Kansas City.  The friendly competition is all about having fun and bringing awareness to the needs of the community.  

     Jerry’s Cafe at 1209 West 103rd is the defending champion and owner Nick DeFeo says, “Bring ‘em on!”.  He’s confident that this year’s entry will bring home another championship to the Cafe. We’ll see…
