A Guide to Area Senior Living Communities

Every year we publish our Guide to Senior Living Communities and in this year of Covid, we are doing it again. South Kansas City is fortunate to have many senior living facilities in the area. All have taken the necessary precautions to decrease Covid exposure for its residents and staff.  With so many Senior Living facilities in the area, all enable individuals to continue to live or mend close to home. The following is news and a synopsis of each facility in the readership area listed alphabetically. 


 Armour Oaks Senior Living Community,  8100 Wornall Rd, 816-787-0120.  Provides independent and assisted living as well as skilled nursing care. Enrichment programs and emergency care staff as well as on-site storage space is also available for residents. Armour Oaks is COVID19 free and doing their best to keep everyone  safe throughout this pandemic.  It is one of the oldest, continuous operating nonprofits in Kansas City.

Beautiful Savior Lutheran Home, 1003 South Cedar Street, Belton 816-331-0781.  Offers skilled nursing, assisted living, rehabilitation services and respite services. Nestled in the country, surrounded by wildlife and a nearby horse farm, Beautiful Savior strives to “create a home within a nursing home.” It offers 178 spacious one- and two-bedroom apartments with full-sized kitchens. The faith-based care center has 24-hour nursing care, wellness and activities directors, beauty salon, and spiritual guidance. 

Brookdale Leawood State Line, 12724 State Line, Leawood. 913-345-8808.   This dedicated Alzheimer’s and memory care community offers all the amenities of home in a structured and secure environment. Raised garden beds, woodworking area, crafts room, piano, walking trails, and pet ownership allows residents to enjoy hobbies and activities. Dementia-friendly menus such as meatloaf and apple pie or finger food are caringly suited for the needs and memories of the individuals. 

Brookdale Wornall Place, 501 W 107 St. 816-941-7777.  Brookdale Wornall Place offers independent and assisted living with an indoor swimming pool and hot tub, fitness center, formal dining room, and beauty salon. A dedicated card room welcomes the occasional gambler with poker or Bunko tournaments. An art studio is available for crafts, painting and jewelry making. Pets are allowed. Underground garage parking is available to residents.

Carondelet Place became an Ignite Medical Resort rehab facility November 1. 

Carondelet Place/Ignite Medical Resorts, 621 Carondelet Dr. 816-941-1300. On November 1, Cardondelet Place will change hands and join the Ignite Medical Resorts family of luxury rehabilitation facilities. Ignite owns facilities in north Kansas City, KU Medical Center, and Blue Springs. Carondelet Place provides rehabilitation and short-term care when therapy is needed after surgery, illness or hospital stay. Long-term care is provided for residents who need a higher level of assistance in dealing with an ongoing illness, chronic medical condition or disability. The skilled nursing community, formerly owned by Ascension Living, is conveniently located on the St. Joseph Medical Center campus. 

Healthcare Resort of Leawood – 5401 W 143 St., Leawood, KS. 913-249-3600. Built in 2016, the Healthcare Resort of Leawood offers short term rehab, longterm and assisted living options. Amenities include 24/7 nursing services, a salon and spa, pubs, bistro, gym, movie theater, activities and excursions. 

Homestead Assisted Living, 12720 State Line Rd., Leawood, KS. 913-565-2722. Homestead began a complete renovation, adding 18 new rooms and expanding the kitchen and dining facilities as well as overall updating of the facility. It now has 28 assisted living units and 18 memory care.. 

Life Care Center of Grandview – 6301 E. 125 St. Grandview  816-765-7714. Focusing on inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation with 24-hour skilled nursing care, Life Care Center of Grandview’s in-house team of therapists and nurses individualize  care for each resident and patient. Its state-of-the-art equipment, like the AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill®, help patients maintain their highest level of independence. 

Kingswood Senior LIving Community, 10000 Wornall Rd., 816-942-0994. As a Continuing Care Retirement Community,  Kingswood offers a full continuum of on-site care including independent living villas and apartments, assisted living, memory support, short-term rehabilitation and long-term nursing care − all under one roof. 

The Madison 14001 Madison Ave., (816) 627-1726. The $34 million senior living complex at 150 Hwy and Wyandotte has recently opened its independent living facility and will soon open its assisted living and memory care housing. (See story page 10.) Once complete, it will offer 90 independent living apartments,  44 assisted living apartments and 16 memory care rooms. 

Saint Anthony’s Catholic Retirement Center, 1000 E 68 St. (816) 846-0870.  The newly built gated resort-style retirement complex offers a continuum of care, with 120 independent living units, 49 assisted living and 51 memory care apartments. Independent living units are located in a fully renovated nine-story medical building featuring sweeping views from floor to ceiling windows, fireplaces in each unit, and full kitchen and European washer/dryers. Assisted living and memory care units are located in a single level building with three dining rooms, outdoor courtyards and activity areas. Also onsite are beauty salons, therapy gyms, and a chapel for Mass and confession. Non denominational services are also offered. 

Senior Star at Villa Ventura, 12100 Wornall Rd., 816-787-0915. Villa Venture is taking all the precautions to decrease exposure to the pandemic and are currently Covid free. Villa Ventura offers 130 independent living and 43 assisted living apartment homes in a lush park setting surrounded by trees and flowering vegetation.  Pets are welcome.  Laughter Yoga,  Dakim BrainFitness and an old English pub create a fit and fun environment.  Senior Star communities achieved CARF accreditation focused on advancing service quality and for the third year in a row,  were rated the top 10 Best Workplaces for Aging Services by Fortune magazine.

Timberlake Care Center, 12110 Holmes Rd. 816-941-3006. Nestled deep in the woods, Timberlake offers physical and occupational therapists, 24-hour skilled nursing care, social services, dieticians, behavioral and Alzheimer’s care, activities, hospice and an in-house dialysis center all under the watchful eyes of medical directors. Under lockdown since March 12, they have recently begun accepting new admissions. 

Waterford South, 11515 Holmes Rd. 816-942-4898. This home-like facility provides assisted living where residents are free to come and go as they like.  Meals and activities are provided.  There are 28 beds.
