In the next few weeks, the Public Improvements Advisory Committee (PIAC) will be holding public hearings across the city to gather information from citizens on what infrastructure and park improvements are needed in their communities. In south KC, hearings are scheduled for July 14th and August 17th for Fifth District residents and July 13th and August 10th for Sixth District. Requests must be submitted by August 31st to receive funding for the 2022/2023 fiscal year. (For more information on the participation process check out John Sharp’s column.)

PIAC Coordinator Heather Bray encourages residents to attend the hearings and talk out problems with councilmen and PIAC representatives.  “They have ideas,” she says. She also encourages residents to not give up. “Some years, more funds are available than other years when they are tied up assisting other city funding sources,” she says. “If you don’t get approved one year, try again.”

Below are the projects that were approved for the 2021/2022 fiscal period for south Kansas City.
