Water Bill Help
By John Sharp
KC Water is urging customers struggling to pay their KCMO water bills to call 311 and press 1 to learn about available help.
The department is willing to set up payment arrangements for past due bills over a specified period of time. To participate, customers must pay the monthly installment on their past due bill and the total current charge by the due date.
KC Water also partners with Bridging The Gap’s Leak Stoppers program to reduce water usage and corresponding bills for qualifying KC Water customers.
Leak Stoppers provides free water savings kits that help families prevent wasting water without any loss of performance that can save them hundreds of dollars annually. The kits include bathroom and kitchen faucet aerators, a high efficiency shower head and several devices to detect toilet leaks and reduce the amount of water used for each flush.
Free installation is available.
Persons who own their own homes that have toilets manufactured before 1982 may qualify for a free water-efficient toilet installed by a plumber.
Persons may call Bridging The Gap at 816-890-9600 for more information or go to bridgingthegap.org/water/leakstoppers to sign up online.
