The 48 members of the Waldo-Brookside Rotary Club have lived up to the Rotary motto of “People of Action” by raising $13,135 for Ukrainian relief efforts. This is their largest donation in the history of the organization.

On March 16 the club’s President-Elect Jenna Nelson brought forth to the board a desire to assist the Rotary Club Budapest-Center in Hungary, which is providing aid and support to Ukrainian refugees. Paige Fowler, current Brookside-Waldo club president, agreed, and after some discussion the board decided to donate $5,000 split between the Rotary Club Budapest-Center and the Rotary Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund.

An anonymous club member matched that $5,000 donation and the club’s foundation donated another $1,000. The club also donated the Happy Bucks from their March 23 meeting, which raised an additional $2,035 for a total of $13,035. Other donations have been made privately by club members.

The funds have been distributed and put to work immediately by those on the ground.

Local club president Fowler said, “I love our club and our members. They came forward with some big ideas and we executed them quickly. The 48 members of the Waldo-Brookside Rotary Club have lived up to the Rotary motto of “People of Action” by raising $13,135 ”
