Annual Guide to senior living facilities in South KC

It’s our annual Guide to Senior Living, offering a brief glimpse at senior living facilities in south Kansas City. 

The recently completed Madison Senior Living provides a continuum of care from independent living to assisted living and memory care.

Continuum Care

 Armour Oaks Senior Living Community,  8100 Wornall Rd, 816-787-0120.  Provides independent and assisted living as well as skilled nursing care. Enrichment programs and emergency care staff as well as on-site storage space is also available for residents.  It is one of the oldest, continuously operating nonprofits in Kansas City.

Beautiful Savior Lutheran Home, 1003 South Cedar Street, Belton 816-331-0781.  Beautiful Savior Lutheran Home & Assisted Living is a faith based, non-for-profit organization of the Lutheran Church providing assisted living, long-term and rehabilitation nursing care. It offers 178 spacious one- and two- bedroom apartments with full-sized kitchens, 24/7 nursing care, wellness and activities directors, beauty salon and spiritual guidance. The facility is nestled in countryside surrounded by the beautiful horse farms and wildlife.the Belton, MO. .

Kingswood Senior LIving Community, 10000 Wornall Rd., 816-942-0994. As a Life Plan Community, Kingswood offers a full continuum of on-site care including independent living villas and apartments, assisted living, memory support, short-term rehabilitation and long-term nursing care − all on one campus. 

The Madison Senior Living 14001 Madison Ave., (816) 627-1726. A new senior living community located at 150 Hwy and Wyandotte (near Martin City) provides a continuum of care from independent living to assisted living and memory care. Amenities include a swimming pool, fitness center, transportation, bistro, craft center, libraries, salon, and anytime dining at its 18th & Vine Restaurant. It was recently  recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a 2022-23 Best Assisted Living.

Saint Anthony’s Senior Living, 1000 E 68 St. (816) 846-0870. The gated resort-style retirement complex offers a continuum of care, with 120 independent living units, 49 assisted living and 51 memory care apartments. Independent living units are located in a fully renovated nine-story medical building featuring sweeping views from floor to ceiling windows, fireplaces in each unit, and full kitchen and European washer/dryers. Assisted living and memory care units are located in a single level building with three dining rooms, outdoor courtyards and activity areas. Also onsite are beauty salons, therapy gyms, and a chapel for Mass and confession. Non denominational services are also offered. 

Timberlake Care Center, 12110 Holmes Rd. 816-941-3006. Nestled deep in the woods, Timberlake offers physical and occupational therapists, 24-hour skilled nursing care, social services, dieticians, behavioral and Alzheimer’s care, activities, hospice and an in-house dialysis center all under the watchful eyes of medical directors.

Independent/Assisted Living

Brookdale Wornall Place, 501 W 107 St. 816-941-7777.  Brookdale Wornall Place offers independent and assisted living with an indoor swimming pool and hot tub, fitness center, formal dining room, and beauty salon. A dedicated card room welcomes the occasional gambler with poker or Bunko tournaments. An art studio is available for crafts, painting and jewelry making. Pets are allowed. Underground garage parking is available to residents.

Homestead Estates of Leawood, 12720 State Line Rd., Leawood, KS. 913-565-2722. Midwest Health reopened Homestead in April after a two year renovation. Now open to assisted living only, the renovated facility has added 18 new rooms and expanded the kitchen and dining facilities as well as overall updating of the facility. After removing existing siding and roofing, the exterior was given a residential home design. The interior was stripped to the studs and given a brighter, airier and more open feel. Commissioned artwork are reminders of Leawood historic sites. Studio and one-bedroom units have marble countertops and backsplashes and vinyl wood plank flooring. A salon and spa and large courtyard round out the Homestead experience

Senior Star at Villa Ventura, 12100 Wornall Rd., 816-941-0525. Villa Ventura offers 130 independent living and 43 assisted living apartment homes in a lush park setting surrounded by trees and flowering vegetation.  Pets are welcome.  Laughter Yoga,  Dakim BrainFitness and an old English pub create a fit and fun environment.  Senior Star communities achieved CARF accreditation focused on advancing service quality and for the third year in a row,  were rated the top 10 Best Workplaces for Aging Services by Fortune magazine.

Life Care Center of Grandview offers the latest rehabilitation equpment.

Rehabilitation Centers

Ignite Medical Resort, 621 Carondelet Dr. 816-941-1300. Last year Carondelet Place changed ownership with Oklahoma-based Ignite Medical Resort rehabilitation facilities. After a $2 million makeover, the 120-room facility has an upgraded therapy gym, dining room, lobby and even its own Starbucks. Therapists are in-house employees. 

Life Care Center of Grandview – 6301 E. 125 St. Grandview  816-765-7714. Focusing on inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation with 24-hour skilled nursing care, Life Care Center of Grandview’s in-house team of therapists and nurses individualize  care for each resident and patient. Memory Care 

Brookdale Leawood State Line, 12724 State Line, Leawood. 913-345-8808.   This dedicated Alzheimer’s and age-in-place community offers all the amenities of home in a structured and secure environment. Raised garden beds, woodworking area, crafts room, piano, walking trails, pet ownership and accessible courtyard allows residents to enjoy hobbies and activities. Dementia-friendly menus such as meatloaf and apple pie or finger food are caringly suited for the needs and memories of the individuals.
