Leawood Welcomers invite KC members along the state line

“We’re a very inclusive, cordial group.”

The Leawood Welcomers, who have been a Leawood-based women’s social group since 1958, is now inviting their Kansas City counterparts to join them.

Women who live within the Kansas City ZIP Codes that border Leawood, which would be 64145 and 64114 from Martin City to 95th Street, can now join the very active organization. Their fall luncheon is currently scheduled for Wednesday, October 19 at Jasper’s. (Reservations required.)

In addition to attending luncheons and coffees/teas, the 126 members have diverse interest groups they can choose to join: cards/games, book reviews, crafts, movies, travels, restaurants/happy hours, and singles/couples outings.

Recently, the group has included outings to the state capitol, 18th & Vine museums, Fort and the Clydesdale farm among others.

“We have a lot to offer women who like to meet new people and learn new things,” says President Lynn Strout. The group voted to be more inclusive so that members’ friends across the state line could participate and so Leawood members who moved to Kansas City could officially remain involved.

Strout recalls joining numerous organizations in the metropolitan area when she first moved here from Illinois. “I joined everything,” she says. “But I never met one person.”

Leawood Welcomers was the exception. “You need a group like ours that makes you integrate with others,” she says. “We make sure new members have someone to talk to.”

“We’re a very inclusive, cordial group,” says Strout.

Annual dues are $25. For more information, visit leawoodwelcomers.com
