Center High School presents "Check Please" November 18 - 20.

Area high school thespians prepare for the stage

They’ve been rehearsing for months and soon the moment will arrive when young south Kansas City thespians will take to the stage for their high school fall performances. For a small stipend, residents can take in a show and support the arts.

Kansas City Academy – “The Alibi” November 11 -12 at 7 pm at Kansas City Academy, 7911 Main St. A who dunnit mystery told from the perspective of 10 different people. 

Center High School – “Check Please” November 18 and 19 at 7 pm and November 20 at 2 pm at Center High School, 85th and Holmes Rd. “Check Please” follows the trials and tribulations of two people at separate tables in the same restaurant, experiencing blind dates that are utter failures. 

Grandview High School – “Drowsy Chaperone”  scheduled for November 17-19 has been cancelled.

Ruskin High School –  “12 Angry Jurors” November 17-19, 7 pm. Arts Asylum Theater, 824 E. Meyer Blvd. “12 Angry Jurors” is a play that contemplates the huge responsibility of 12 ordinary people as they consider the guilt or innocence of a young man accused of murder.  The 12 jurors bring their own histories, prejudices, and biases to the jury room as they work through this life or death decision.  

Barstow High School – “The Customer Is Always Wrong” November 18, 7 pm at Raymond B. White Auditorium at The Barstow School, 11511 State Line Rd. By Ian McWelty, it doesn’t seem like rocket science to babysit, wait tables, pass out flyers, or work at a movie theater, but it’s not long before four teenagers find out that in the minimum-wage world, the customer is king…a brutal, ruthless king. 

Rockhurst High School – “Elf the Musical Jr” December 1-3, Pozzo Theater at Rockhurst High School, 9301 State Line Rd. Based on the beloved holiday film, this fish-out-of-water comedy follows Buddy the Elf in his quest to find his true identity.

Lutheran High School –  “Wizard of Oz” December 2-4, Lutheran High School of Kansas City Theater, 124th and Wornall Rd. The classic musical comes to life. 

Notre Dame de Sion High School – “Little Women Musical” January 20-22, Goppert Theater on the Avila University Campus, 119th and Wornall Rd.
