This evening at 6:45pm, Kansas City Police Department received several 911 calls in regard to shots fired at Ward Parkway Center. Due to the magnitude of the situation, the department called for a city-wide assist. Law enforcement agencies from Leawood, Prairie Village, Lee’s Summit, Independence, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Jackson County Sheriff’s Departments, Kansas City Fire Department and the FBI quickly responded for assistance.
Officers immediately responded and without hesitation entered the businesses and began searching for any victims and suspects. Officers cleared all the businesses and did not locate any injured victims. Officers have taken subjects of interest into custody. The suspect is under investigation and is being reviewed by a Juvenile Officer.
The KCPD Assault Squad detectives have responded to the scene and will be leading the investigation. Crime Scene Personnel have also responded to the scene.
The KCPD spokesperson says there were several witnesses who left the area for their safety before they were able to contact them, They urge any witnesses to call detectives at 816-234-5227 with information. Or call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
Chief Graves, who is currently out of town, was notified and is being kept updated on the situation.
The businesses at the center will remain closed the rest of the evening.
