Martin City gets its coffee fix back

“We didn’t want to be exactly like Martin City Coffee.”

Phillip Stegner, former barista for Martin City Coffee, has opened his own coffee shop, P.S. Coffee and Drive-Thru in Martin City. The soft opening began on February 11.

“We are still trying to finalize everything,” said Stegner. “I’m just happy to be serving coffee again.”

Stegner had hoped to open the coffee shop on January 1st, the day after nearby Martin City Coffee closed its doors. But the city health department had other plans. After a month and a half, the city gave Stegner the final okay.

Stegner, along with his sister Abigail, are experimenting with new recipes and menu items. “We didn’t want to be exactly like Martin City Coffee,” he says. “We are searching for items we can do consistently.”

Stegner is also experimenting with locally owned coffee roasters. Currently P.S. Coffee carries Notion Coffee and Khomanta Coffee

The location, 13109 Holmes Rd., which was formerly Penny’s Bakery and Ramsey Burgers, has been renovated into a cozy retreat with soothing black painted walls, concrete flooring, exposed ceiling and lush, live greenery supplied by Peaceful Roots.

The space has a 31 person occupancy. Stegner plans to eventually expand that by enclosing the outdoor patio.

P.S. Coffee and Drive-Thru is open from 6 a.m. to noon Monday through Sunday. A grand opening is planned for the spring.
