I-435 bridge construction to begin March 14

Missouri Department of Transportation has released closure notices as construction will affect traffic.

Replacement of the Interstate 435 bridges over 87th Street will begin Tuesday, March 14. Crews have adjusted their schedule by a day due to inclement weather.

Construction work will require the following traffic changes. All work is weather permitting.

Tuesday, March 14

  • The right lane of northbound I-435 will be CLOSED at 87th Street for shoulder paving beginning at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, until approximately 6 a.m. the following morning.
  • The right lane of southbound I-435 will be CLOSED at 87th Street beginning at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, until 6 a.m. the following morning.

Wednesday, March 15

  • Northbound I-435 will be reduced to ONE LANE at 87th Street for barrier wall placement beginning at 7 p.m. until approximately 5 a.m. the following morning. Motorists should note that once the barrier wall is placed, the left lane of northbound I-435 will remain CLOSED for the duration of the project (approximately September 2023).

Thursday, March 16

  • Southbound I-435 will be reduced to ONE LANE at 87th Street for barrier wall placement beginning at 8 p.m. until approximately 5 a.m. the following morning. Motorists should note that once the barrier wall is placed, the left lane of southbound  I-435 will remain CLOSED for the duration of the project.

Friday, March 17

  • There will be intermittent rolling slow-downs for pavement marking along both northbound and  southbound I-435 at 87th Street beginning at 11 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m.

Monday, March 20

  • The left lane of westbound and eastbound 87th Street will be CLOSED under I-435 beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, March 20, until approximately Saturday, September 30.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones.

The existing bridges were constructed in 1967 and need to be replaced. Anticipated completion will be Fall 2023. More details can be found on the MoDOT website or by following MoDOT_KC on Twitter or Facebook.
