Kansas City Jazz Vespers features the Bryan Alford Experience and his six-person band, including vocalist, on Sunday, May 21, 6-8 pm, at the historic First Baptist Church of Kansas City, MO in south City at the corner of Wornall Road and Red Bridge Road. It’s free and open to the public. Alford is known for his exceptional performance on the Caribbean Steel Drum, in which he makes the instrument sing. His music is smooth jazz and calypso music. Alford has been performing in the Kansas City area for over 20 years.
Alford received his Music Business degree from Missouri Western State University in Saint Joseph Missouri while at the same time traveling the country with the all percussion ensemble “Sticks of Thunder.” Alford has performed regularly with several of the regions top artists for over 20 years. In 2018 he was selected to represent the United States as the US music ambassador for UNESCO in San Cristobal Mexico.
Bryan’s unique style couples gospel roots with Latin grooves.
Bryan’s high energy and positive outlook on life has taken him from behind the drum set to center stage performing as the house entertainment for the Great Wolf Lodge resorts for over 10 years to being featured at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas Nevada and everything in between. His is in a movie that is currently running on Showtime called”Christmas at the Chateau.”
Bryan founded Alford music and entertainment in 1996 and has taught and inspired thousands of students for over 20 years. He is currently the drumline instructor at Brookside Charter school in Kansas City Missouri
Kansas City Jazz Vespers features 100 minutes of professional concert jazz with a 15 minute inspirational interlude. The evening is free though a free-will offering is taken to support the performers.
First Baptist Church is 100 percent accessible with lighted parking surrounding the sanctuary. The church is affiliated with the American Baptist Churches USA and is the oldest continuing Protestant Church founded in Kansas City. Rev. Dezo Schreiner and Rev.
