At 11:45 am, a carjacking victim was beaten and carjacked at 62nd and Paseo. South Patrol located the suspect vehicle, a red Toyota Corolla, after the suspects were trying to commit another robbery in the area of East 101st Terrace. A vehicle pursuit ensued along Bannister Road. The Toyota traveled down the embankment from the entrance ramp to southbound I-435 from Bannister and into the southbound lanes of I-435.
A black Volvo T6 was traveling in the second lane of travel and braked to avoid the Toyota. The Volvo was rear ended by a red Freightliner semi-truck and car carrier, pushing the Volvo west across all lanes of I-435 and into the ditch. The Freightliner then struck the Toyota. The driver of the Volvo was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Freightliner and the occupants of the Toyota were uninjured in the collision. The driver of the Volvo is currently in critical condition.
The initial carjacking victim was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition. All suspects were taken into custody after a brief foot chase. The investigation is ongoing.
