Seeking award nominees for south KC community organizers and volunteers

SKCA’s 5th annual community awards breakfast is on Saturday, October 7, at Avila University.

The South Kansas City Alliance is seeking nominations of individuals and organizations that have devoted substantial time and resources to improve the south Kansas City area to be honored at SKCA’s 5th annual community awards breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturday, October 7, at the Whitfield Center at Avila University, 11901 Wornall Rd.

Persons may go to SKCA’s website at www.southkcalliance.org by September 9 to nominate individuals and organizations for their service to the south Kansas City community, to purchase tickets for the event that features a full hot breakfast buffet or to sign up as sponsors of the event.

Tickets and sponsorships may be ordered and paid for by credit card online or paper order forms and checks may be mailed to the SKCA at P. O. Box 7914, KCMO 64114 in time to be received by Saturday, September 9.  Early ordering might be well advised since last year’s event was a full house.

Nomination forms may be filled out online or paper nomination forms may be filled out and emailed to me as SKCA president at jsharp122@hotmail.com or mailed to the SKCA post office box in time to be received by September 9. 

Awards are given to individuals and organizations in nine separate categories for their community service, and multiple awards are sometimes given in several categories.  The categories are the:

Judy Swope Good Neighbor Award to a neighborhood volunteer who has provided a high level of service to his or her neighborhood.

Outstanding Neighborhood Organization Award to a homes association or neighborhood organization that has provided a high level of service to its residents.

Alvin Brooks Lifetime Service Award to an individual who has provided a lifetime of service to improving south Kansas City.

Outstanding Community Service Award to an individual or organization that has provided leadership in the non-profit, private or public sectors to improve south Kansas City.

John Sharp Outstanding Government Service Award to an individual who has excelled in his or her position with a federal, state or local government agency to improve south Kansas City.

Outstanding Public Safety Service Award to an individual who has gone beyond the duties of his or her position to make south Kansas City a safer community or who has performed lifesaving service or an act of heroism.

Outstanding Educational Achievement Program Award to a program that has achieved exceptional results in improving student motivation and achievement.

Good Corporate Citizenship Award to a company that has demonstrated good corporate citizenship by giving back to the south Kansas City area beyond just creating jobs and investing in our area.

Outstanding Young Achiever Award to a student or young adult who has provided outstanding service to improve south Kansas City.

Tickets for the awards breakfast buffet may be purchased for $15 or for only $100 for a table of eight.

Gold sponsorships of the awards breakfast may be purchased for $500 and include a table for eight.  Silver sponsorships are $250 and include four tickets, and bronze sponsorships are $125 and include two tickets.  

The name of the company or individual purchasing a sponsorship will be prominently displayed on SKCA’s website and promotional material for the event.
