Honoring the victims of 9/11

There will be a ceremonial laying of the wreaths, a tolling of the bell and a five-volley salute.

The public is invited to attend the annual Kansas City 9/11 remembrance ceremony to honor the victims of the 9/11 attack on the U.S. and to show their appreciation for current first responders on Monday, September 11, at the First Responders Memorial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd.

The American Legion band will play from 5:30 to 6 p.m. when the ceremony will begin.

Scheduled speakers include KCMO Mayor Quinton Lucas, Raytown Mayor Mike McDonough, KCMO Police Chief Stacey Graves and Assistant Fire Chief Jimmy Walker.  There will be a ceremonial laying of the wreaths, a tolling of the bell and a five-volley salute.

The remembrance event is sponsored by American Legion District 5, VFW District 5, Muehlebach Funeral Care, Passantino Brothers Funeral Home and Catholic Charities of Kansas City-St. Joseph.
