Belton residential airpark has first public hearing tonight

It’s been a couple of years since developers first presented information to the public about Arrowhead Airpark, a luxury housing village on the outskirts of Belton where residents could park their small engine planes.

Tonight Arrowhead Airpark LLC will have its first public hearing with the Cass County Planning Board regarding an application for a community septic system on the property located at 203rd St and Prospect. The meeting starts at 6 pm at the Cass County Courthouse, 30508 S. West Outer Rd., in Harrisonville.

Drainage plans for the proposed Arrowhead Airpark.

Plans for the airpark have only begun the approval process. A future hearing, sometime this spring, will be for the airpark and rezoning plans, according to developer spokesperson Craig Wilcox. He expects that meeting to be of more interest to surrounding neighbors. Tuesday’s meeting (February 27) will only entertain comments and questions from the public regarding the drainage plans.

On Nextdoor.com, where interested parties have spoken out on the project, about half are in favor while half oppose the concept.

Plans for the airpark include 95 homes built around a 3000 sq. ft. runway on 157 acres. Each home will have its own adjoining airplane hangar.

Since the plans were first introduced to the public two years ago, some changes were made based on input, according to Wilcox.  Those include realigning the runway to avoid flying over homes, adjusting flight path limits, and eliminating hangars for storage only. The latter eliminates nonresidential use of hangars.  Now the development will require estate homes with large hangars or stand-alone hangars with attached apartments.

Developer Craig Wilcox invites interested parties to contact him at arrowheadairpark@gmail.com for more information.
