KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jackson County, in partnership with the City of Grain Valley and Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) Solid Waste Management District, is holding a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day tomorrow, Saturday, October 5 from 8:00 a.m. – Noon, or until trucks are full. This free event will take place at 34900 E. Old U.S. 40 Highway in Oak Grove, MO.
Residents of participating Jackson County communities, including Blue Springs, Independence, Lake Lotawana, Kansas City, Sugar Creek, Grain Valley, Lone Jack, Oak Grove, Greenwood, Lee’s Summit and Lake Tapawingo, along with those in unincorporated Jackson County, are eligible for this service. The event offers an opportunity for residents to safely dispose of household hazardous waste, protecting both the community and the environment.
What to Bring:

How to Safely Transport Your Waste:

Bring waste in its original container, if possible, with lids tightly sealed

Do not mix different types of waste together

Use a larger plastic container to hold leaking items and absorb leaks with kitty litter

Secure the waste upright in a cardboard box and place it in your vehicle’s trunk or truck bed for transport

Avoid carrying hazardous materials in the back seat with children or pets
-
Residents from non-participating communities should explore alternative disposal options, such as the Lee’s Summit facility, which may require a fee and an appointment.
