On November 7th, Bishop James Johnston officially opened the new Catholic Charities headquarters and Serve & Lift Center for the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, located at 8001 Longview Rd.
Bishop Johnston provided a formal blessing after City Council member Darrell Curls welcomed the organization to south Kansas City.
Catholic Charities moved from their offices on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd after the $6 million renovation of the former St. Matthew Apostle Catholic Church in the Ruskin neighborhood. St. Matthew’s closed in November 2020 after 56 years as a parish.
In addition to offices for Catholic Charities personnel, the building provides a large food pantry, social service intake rooms, classrooms and even a 24-hour rest space for patrolling police.
Catholic Charities serves clients in 27 counties. Learn more about the facility here.
