On February 26, the Hickman Mills C-1 Schools (HMC-1) announced that the Missouri State Board of Education (DESE) will hear an appeal of its accreditation status at a meeting on March 4.

HMC-1 received a 75.2% APR score indicating continuous progress in student achievement, marks that warrant a change in status from provisional to fully accredited. Though DESE originally planned to delay reclassification of all school districts, HMC-1 advocated for the chance to appeal.

“Our students and our staff have continuously worked toward this goal. I am excited for them that it is finally coming to fruition,” said Superintendent Yaw Obeng.

If HMC-1 is reclassified, it would be the first time in almost two decades that all metropolitan area public school districts are fully accredited.
