The City of Kansas City will host a community engagement session to discuss improvements to Troost Ave on Tuesday, August 19 from 5:30 to 7 pm at the Miller Nichols Library at the University of Missouri – Kansas City, 800 E. 51st St.
Members of the public will learn about recent improvements and offer ideas for the road, from downtown to its southernmost point at Bannister Rd. City project officials will present traffic and crash report data.
Troost Avenue sees a daily traffic volume of between 5,000 and 7,000 vehicles in both directions, making it one of the most popular north-south connectors in Kansas City. The city plans to encourage investment along the corridor by leveraging incentives through the Land Clearance for Redevelopment Authority (LCRA), Planned Industrial Expansion Authority (PIEA), microloans from the Economic Development Corporation and Chapter 353 programs.
The city’s ongoing analysis of traffic and crash data will assess the efficacy of safety improvements, such as lane reconfigurations, intersection improvements, pedestrian walkways and additional signage. To date, south projects include the addition of pedestrian walkways along Troost between 82nd Terr to Bannister Rd. An activated crosswalk beacon signal is planned for the intersection of Troost at 79th St.
Parking for the August 19 event is available in the UMKC Lot 4. Learn more at kcmo.gov.
The city is also seeking input through an online survey, which will be open through September 12, 2025.
