12th Annual MLK Jr Walk along Brush Creek

Heartland Conservation Alliance will hold its 12th Annual MLK, Jr. Speak Program and Nature Walk on MLK Day, Monday, January 19th from 9:30am to 12pm. The free public event features a one-hour speaker program, and a guided environmental justice focused nature walk starting at MLK, Jr. Square Park, continuing along Brush Creek, and concluding at the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Center.

Speakers include urban farmer and community organizer Darrian Davis, owner and founder of the KC Urban Farm Co-op and Dina Newman, Director of UMKC’s Center for Neighborhoods and founder of Kansas City Black Urban Growers, Inc.

Music will be performed by keyboardist Angela Ward and jazz vocalist Piaget Long as refreshments are served.

The 1.5-mile walk will be let by US Fish and Wildlife Service Ranger Nova Clark at 11 am.
