Shooting on Troost results in death

On Saturday afternoon, just after 5:30 pm, officers were dispatched to the 8200 block of Troost on a reported shooting.

As officers arrived they were directed to a convenience store in the area. It was there they located an adult male victim suffering from unknown trauma to his head. Officers began performing lifesaving measures and ordered Kansas City Fire Department’s Emergency Medical Services to the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The victim has been identified as  37-year-old Jessie Ross, a Black male.

Detectives have identified a subject of interest in this case and will be working with prosecutors to present investigative findings for their decision on applicable charges.

Investigators and crime scene personnel responded and began a death investigation.  They processed the scene for physical evidence, surveillance footage, and canvassed for witnesses. KCPD detectives were contacted by hospital officials at a later time revealing the victim suffered a gunshot wound. This case is now being investigated as a homicide. Homicide detectives have taken over the case and are following up on all leads.
